What is the difference between Naven and Discord?
Discord is built around public servers people discover and join; Naven has no public directory at all. Discord is far more capable for large communities and gaming; Naven screens messages before they send and has no way for a stranger to reach you.
They are solving different problems. Discord's discovery is the feature that makes it useful for finding a community around a game or an interest, and the same feature is what puts young users in rooms with adults who sought them out.
Discord also has voice channels, rich integrations, bots and a decade of ecosystem. Naven has none of that, and anybody who wants it should stay on Discord.
What Naven has instead is pre-send screening, no directory, no stranger DMs and a browser-only architecture that works on a managed school device where Discord is usually blocked.
