How to find an old message
Search runs inside a conversation, so you can find the thing somebody said without scrolling back through months of it.
Step by step

Open the conversation
Search is per conversation rather than global.

Press the search button in the header
Next to the call buttons.

Type what you remember
Matches are highlighted and you can move between them.

Jump to it
Selecting a match scrolls the conversation to that message in place.
Worth knowing
- Searching does not mark anything as read or notify anybody.
- The words you search for are matched in the conversation you are in, not across the whole account.
- If you cannot find something, it may be in a different conversation than you remember — a common case in groups.

Can I search all my conversations at once?
Search is per conversation.
Does search include messages from before I joined a group?
It covers the history you can see.
Can other people tell I searched?
No.
