How to make a group chat
A Naven group needs a name and the people in it. Nobody has to share a phone number, and nobody has to install anything to join.
Step by step

Press New conversation
The plus button in the sidebar, or New conversation on an empty screen.

Switch to the Group tab
The window opens on Direct. Group is the second tab, next to it.

Name the group
Anything up to sixty characters. This is what everybody in it will see in their list, so a name that says which group it is beats a clever one.

Add people
Start typing a name to pick from people you already have conversations with. For somebody new, enter their email address instead.

Create it
Everybody you added sees the group appear. Nobody has to accept anything first.
Worth knowing
- The name picker only offers people you already talk to. Naven has no member directory, so there is nobody else to browse — that is deliberate, and it is why strangers cannot find their way into your groups.
- Adding somebody by email works whether or not they have a Naven account yet. If they do not, they are invited.
- Every message in a group is screened before it sends, exactly as in a direct conversation.
Questions
Do I need everybody's phone number to make a group chat?
No. Naven never asks for a phone number, yours or anybody else's. People are added by the email address you already have for them, or picked from conversations you already have.
How many people can be in a Naven group?
Far more than a group chat that works well usually has. The practical limit is whether everybody in it wants to read it.
Can somebody leave a group?
Yes, from the conversation itself. Leaving is theirs to do and does not need anybody's permission.
