How can I talk to family abroad for free?
Any internet messenger with voice and video calling — Naven, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram — costs nothing beyond the data. The practical question is which one everybody in the family can actually install and open.
The obstacle is rarely the app and usually the device. An older relative on a borrowed tablet, somebody on a work laptop that forbids installs, a cousin whose phone storage is full — any of these breaks a plan that requires everybody to install the same thing.
A browser-based messenger removes that failure: a link opens in whatever browser is already there.
The other consideration is whether the service is reachable where they are. Some countries block Google's infrastructure, which breaks services that depend on it. Naven routes its traffic through its own domain for exactly this reason.
