Thread
A side conversation attached to one message.
Threads keep a tangent from overwriting the main line, which is most of what makes a busy channel readable. They also fragment attention — a reply in a thread is easy to miss — so platforms differ on whether a threaded reply is also shown in the channel.
The feature is most valuable exactly where a channel is busiest.
