Two-factor authentication
Requiring a second proof beyond a password.
The factors are something you know, something you have, and something you are. SMS codes are the weakest common second factor — they are interceptable and vulnerable to SIM swapping — and an authenticator app or a hardware key is substantially stronger.
A passkey collapses the two factors into one step, since unlocking the device is the second factor.
Where Naven stands
Naven's code sign-in and passkeys both prove possession rather than knowledge, which is the property a second factor exists to add.
