How to start a video call
Naven's calls run in the browser tab you already have open. There is nothing to download, and the person you are calling does not need an app either.
Step by step

Open the conversation
Go to Messages and click the person or group you want to call. Calls start from inside a conversation, so the people in it are already the people on the call.

Press Video
The Video button sits at the top right of the conversation, next to Call. Voice-only is the Call button beside it — the same thing without the camera.

Let the browser ask for your camera
The first time on a new device the browser asks for camera and microphone. This is the browser's own prompt, not Naven's, and answering Block stops the call rather than Naven.

They get a ring wherever Naven is open
The other person sees an incoming call in any tab they have Naven open in. If notifications are on they are told even when the tab is closed.
Worth knowing
- Group calls work the same way: open the group, press Video, and everybody in it is rung.
- You can turn the camera off mid-call and keep talking — it becomes a voice call without dropping.
- A call needs a reasonably modern browser. Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox all work; a browser more than a few years old may not.
Questions
Do I need to install anything to make a video call?
No. Naven runs entirely in the browser, and so do its calls. There is no desktop app and no mobile app to install, on either end of the call.
Does the other person need a Naven account?
To be called directly, yes — a call happens inside a conversation, and a conversation needs two accounts. Making one takes an email address and a six-digit code.
Can I call somebody who is on a phone?
Yes. Naven works in a phone browser as well as a laptop one, and a call can have one of each.
