Typing indicator
A signal that the other person is composing a message.
It makes a conversation feel live and it leaks a little more than people expect — starting and deleting a reply several times is visible as hesitation. The information is genuinely useful in a fast exchange and mostly noise in a slow one.
Implementations usually stop reporting after a few seconds of inactivity.
